Happy New Year!

The holidays are known for being the most wonderful time of the year, as several festive songs have been written to prove that point. What’s less sung about, is the fact that it’s also an incredibly stressful season, centered around spending a lot of money and more often than not, spending a little too much time with family. There’s a reason the New Year signifies new beginnings. After a busy holiday season, it’s time to take a clear look at the twelve months ahead and plan how to make 2019 your best year yet.

Here are a few simple yet powerful ways to give yourself a fresh start this year.

Start each day on the right foot.

Waking up in the morning is not a fun thing to do. Usually you’re groggy, still tired, and not wanting to face the day. Just like brushing your teeth or making a pot of coffee, try to make it part of your morning routine to take a few minutes when you first get up to focus on the positives in your life and of the day ahead. Think of what you have to look forward to, what you’re happy about, and why today is going to be a good one. And then you can worry about what to wear.

Try new things.

It’s a new year, that means it’s time to try new things. This can be as easy as reading a new book on a topic you’re not familiar with, or attempting an unconventional workout class, or going to a restaurant you’ve never been to before. The smallest changes can make the biggest differences. Even simply listening to a new song or podcast, or taking an alternate route to work can make you feel revitalized. Speaking of feeling revitalized, if you haven’t been under the freezing waterfall at Thermëa, now’s the time to try. Break up your daily routine, you never know where these opportunities will lead you.

Hangout with yourself.

We know how busy life is and how difficult it can sometimes be to even go to the washroom without a child knocking on the door or your phone ringing non-stop. It may be hard to remember, but taking time for yourself isn’t impossible. Call the babysitter, cancel your plans, lock yourself in your bedroom. Do whatever it takes to enjoy a moment to yourself once in a while. Watch your guilty pleasure television show, take a nap, or book a massage. You’ll thank yourself for taking time for yourself.

Make wellness a priority.

This is a resolution many of us have a hard time sticking to, yet it’s such an important one. Focus on your wellbeing this year and make your health a priority. This means different things for different people. Maybe your physical health is your focus, meaning you need to walk the dog more often or you should eat plenty of green vegetables. But don’t forget about your mental health as well. Taking the time to unwind can do wonders for your stress levels and overall sanity. Turn off your phone, surround yourself with people you care about, and come visit us at Thermëa.
