DIY Holiday Gift Wrap

  • December 16, 2019

Online shopping is the real hero of the holiday season. Whether the season has crept up on you again, you were invited to a last minute party, or you just plain forgot someone on your list (it happens!), the ability to buy a gift from the comfort of home and have it delivered to your door is a life saver. Better yet, you can buy a spa gift certificate and print it off at home instantly – no delivery required! But now you’re faced with an unexpected problem: how do you wrap it? Don’t stress – we’ve got you covered. Read on for easy DIY gift wrap ideas to add that special something.

Prepare Your Gift Certificate

Let’s first acknowledge that your printed gift certificate isn’t the easiest thing to work with, since paper is thin and flimsy. We recommend prepping your certificate before you get to wrapping. To make it sturdier and less likely to wrinkle or rip, simply adhere the paper to a backing. A plain piece of brown cardboard or poster board should do the trick. Frame the certificate in the middle, so that the edges of your backing create a border around the paper, and you’re ready to wrap!

For a Romantic Look

For gift wrap that has a charming, vintage look to it, search online for the sheet music to your loved one’s favourite holiday carol and print it off. Next, give your sheet music an aged feel by brewing some tea, waiting for it to cool, and then dipping the paper into the tea. Allow the paper to dry completely on a flat surface. Once dry, you can either use it as gift wrap or adhere it to a paper bag for a unique and beautiful gift bag.

For Style and Function

For a DIY gift certificate sleeve that can be completed in minutes, simply head to your local office supply store and pick up a plain twin pocket folder. Open it up and cut it in half, down the spine, separating the front and back covers. Take the back cover and fold it in half lengthwise to create a tall, skinny booklet. You’ve just created a new twin pocket folder that will perfectly house your gift certificate! Feel free to decorate the outside of the folder with your loved one’s name and some festive art. For a finishing touch, tie some twine around the folder to keep it closed.

For the Element of Surprise

Sometimes half the fun of giving a gift is being able to surprise your loved one! If you want to disguise the shape of your gift certificate so as not to give anything away until the last possible moment, considering placing it in a box on a bed of tissue paper. You can even stop by our spa boutique for a little something extra to go with it! (We recommend one of our scented candles made with essential oils.) Then, simply wrap the box in some craft paper, tie some string around it, and tuck a sprig of greenery into the string for a minimal yet festive look.
